Format Changes to the V8 Supercar Series

V8 Supercars has unveiled some of the format changes for 2009:

• 12 of the 14 championship events (no longer referred to as rounds) will comprise of two individual races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, across 12 Championship events (see below table)
• Bathurst and Phillip Island comprise one race (although the L&H 500 will still have two Saturday qualifying races)
• Each race to have its own podium
• Qualifying will determine both Saturday and Sunday races
• The top 10 shoot-out will return to qualifying
• The compulsory pit stop window will be replaced by necessary refueling stops in both races
• The introduction of a soft compound Dunlop tyre at six events
• A new points system (see attached)
• Annual distribution of tyre allocation rather than per round (thus allowing teams to gain competitive advantage by using more 'green' tyres at one meeting by forfeiting a set at a future meeting)
• The introduction of E85 fuel
